The Masters Fantasy Game 2025 is now open for play! The digital game allows everyone to pick favorites and win prizes while following The Masters golf tournament at Augusta National Golf Course.
It is probably easiest to download the Masters App, though you can play online from the Masters website. If you still have the Masters App from 2024, update it in your App Store. The Masters App and the Masters Fantasy Game are both Free.
In this post, I will explain The Masters Fantasy Game, including the changes from last year, and review the scoring, the prizes, and the tiebreaker—how many putts will be attempted during the tournament. Enjoy
The Masters 2025 App

The Masters App is available for download everywhere you get Apps and can easily be updated if you still have the Masters 2024 App on your phone. Visit your App Store.
I did a short post and video about the Masters 2025 App that you can check out here (video) and here for the post.
The digital coverage of the Masters is spectacular. From the website, www.Masters.com or the Masters App, you can watch every shot from every player every day. This is a Watch Party on steroids. It is simply mind-boggling what is available at your fingertips. Be sure to download and look around; you will not be disappointed.
Masters Fantasy Game

The Masters Fantasy Game is another way for interested golf fans, and even better for the Masters-obsessed fans, to engage with the first Major of the year. Fresh off the NCAA Basketball bracket overload? Try The Masters Fantasy Game to ease the re-entry, while predicting who will slip on the Green Jacket in 2025.
In the simplest terms, pick five golfers from four categories and then watch their progress throughout the week. Masters gear in different volumes goes to the winners. And, my favorite part is the tie-breaker question, which I hope to need on Sunday. How many putts will be attempted during the Masters tournament in 2025?
Scoring
The scoring follows the tournament scoring, with the lowest score winning.
There are two additional chances to lower your score: pick the tournament champion for a 5-point reduction, and pick the low amateur in the field to get three more strokes off your score. Last year, one of the categories was Amateurs, so you had to pick one. But this year, do you select an Amateur and hope for a 3-point bonus? I don’t know.
I like the chances of some of the first-timers; Fuzzy Zoeller was the last winner to don the green jacket on his first trip down Magnolia Lane back in 1979. We shall see.
Another change from last year is the chance to change your picks in case of a withdrawal or missed cut. This year, your picks are your picks, and you must stick with them all week.
Player Selections
Pick a player from each group: Past Champions, US-born Players, International Players, First Timers, and then a Wild Card player. The wild card is any player from any group.
Masters Champions
Only 56 players have won a Green Jacket, with 17 winning more than once. In 2025, 18 past winners will be in the field, making this the smallest group. Knowing Augusta National well enough to win is a massive advantage.

US Born Players
This is usually the largest of the groups, but this year, with 48 golfers born in the United States, the International group had the exact same number of players in the field until Vijay Singh withdrew from the tournament. Of the last seven winners, five were born in the United States.

International Players
Players born outside the United States have won the Masters 18 times, representing eight countries. Only four International players have won multiple times. This group has 48 players for you to choose from.

First Timers
This group comprises the 21 Invitees playing in the Masters for the first time. Five Amateurs are included in this group. Again, for 3 points, do you try to pick the Low Amateur? I do need a ruling here. Do they need to make the cut to be the Low Amateur? And, what if there is a tie for Low Amateur? Do both earn bonuses if selected?

Wild Card
This pick allows you to select an additional player from any of the four groups. Do you play a favorite or use this as a chance to take a long shot?
Groups and Leagues
Your Masters Fantasy Game picks are automatically added to the My Group tab in the App, so you can follow all the action and see how you are doing in real time.
You can join other public groups or create your private league as a friendly competition with your friends or family. The App offers an easy setup and prompts you to send invites via email, text, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
The App lets you see how you compare to the rest of the world. In 2024, nearly 500,000 players played the Masters Fantasy game.
Masters Fantasy Game Prizes
You are competing for prizes, not just bragging rights. There is a single Grand prize, a few Runner-up prizes, and Daily prizes. You would think the Grand Prize Champion would win tickets to the 2026 Masters, but not this year. Here is a breakdown of what you can win.
The Grand Prize winner gets Golf Balls, Hats, Umbrellas, Chairs, Pin Flags, a Watch, Leather Head Covers, a Pouch for Valuables, and a Leather Golf Bag. All official prizes will have the coveted Master Logo.

First Runner-Up Prizes include a Duffel Bag, a Travel Kit, and a Pin Flag. Also, there is a set of Wine Glasses and Old Fashioned Glasses, and a Woven Throw.
The second Runner-up will receive a collection of glassware (Wine, Old-Fashioned, Ale, and Stemless Wine), an Italian Mug and Plate, Cocktail Napkins, Leather Coasters, a Pin Flag, and Bar Towels.
The Daily prizes go to the best score for each day and will win a Duffel Bag, a Cinch Bag, a Jute Bag, a Mini Garden Gnome, Hats, Pin Flags, Tervis Tumblers, and corksicles. If I win a Mini Masters Gnome, will it go in the front yard of the backyard? Tough call.
Prizes can only be won by legal residents of the United States who are 18 years or older.
Tie-breaker – How many Putts?
There can only be one winner, so the Master Fantasy Game has a tiebreaker. They make you think about it, so don’t rush to pick your team until you have thought through the tie-breaker question. How many putts will competitors attempt during the four (4) days of the golf tournament?
I love this question and have been thinking about how to answer it since the Masters Fantasy Game was released.
Last year, the question was, how many Pars would be made during the tournament? Here is a link to my thinking from last year, a video from 2024.
How many Putts?
My first question is: Does the Texas wedge count? Is putting from 30 yards off the green considered a putt? Less likely, how do you treat a wedge from the putting green? And just to be safe, would I get relief if I hit onto a different green than the hole I was playing. I wonder if this has ever happened at the Masters? Anyway, it may be a little early, but I need another ruling here.
Here is my thinking on how many putts will be attempted.
There are 95 players in the field, and the cut is the top 50 players and ties. So, my first assumption is that 52 players will make the cut after the second round. The 43 players who miss the cut will average 36.8 putts in Round 1 and 37.4 putts in Round 2. So, 74.2 times 43 players is 3,190.6 putts by the players who go home for the weekend. I’m rounding down.
For the 52 players who make the cut, I am guessing they will make…

- Round 1 – 34.4 putts,
- Round 2 – 34.5 putts,
- Round 3 – 35.9 putts,
- Round 4 – 36.2 putts
I am assuming some type of weather will affect the putts, and the greens are always super fast at Augusta National. So, 141 putts on average for the 52 players that play four rounds, or 7,332 putts. My grand total is 7,332 + 3,190.6, or 10,522 putts all week.
I don’t know if this is even close, though I found a few helpful details from previous years. Scottie Scheffler had 109 putts last year, and the average number of putts by the winner is 114. My guess might seem high, but there will be 4-putts, and some of these golfers will not have the game of Scottie Scheffler, Brooks Koepka, Jon Rahm, Maverick McNealy, or Rory McIlroy – My picks.
What did you guess? How did you come up with your guess? If you have some suggestions or alternate logic, I’d love to hear it.
Summary of The Masters Fantasy Game
The Masters simply does everything better than everyone else in every way. The Master App and The Masters Fantasy Game are just two more examples. Yes, this leads most golf fans to wonder why this level of coverage is not available for other tournaments. The others are playing catch-up, but we shall see how they do when it is their turn in the spotlight later this Summer.
I hope you found this overview helpful. I will share an update on the Masters Fantasy Game after the cut on Saturday morning, and hopefully find the putt count. And I will do a wrap-up following the tournament to review the Masters Fantasy Game results.
Cheers, md
